Characterization of glass fiber reinforced polymer via digital volume correlation: Quantification of strain activity and damage growth

Strain and damage distributions within a dogbone specimen containing rectangular notch were assessed in-situ via X-ray computed tomography coupled with digital volume correlation. The cut from continuous glass fiber mat reinforced polyester resin composite plate was subjected to cyclic tensile loading. strain–damage interplay evaluated by analyzing major eigen strain correlation residual fields. horizontal strained band emanating the root present beginning of final failure proceeded along this band. first cracks did not initiate in notched region, despite high gradients. activity growth quantified cumulative probabilities strains. comparison made between region remaining part inspected specimen.
